Maria Teresa Scandola (26 January 1849 - 1 September 1903) was an Italian Roman Catholic nun of the Comboni Missionary Sisters. She assumed the name of Maria Giuseppa upon her admittance into that order. She served in South Sudan where she died in 1903. Pope Francis approved her life of heroic virtue and proclaimed her to be Venerable on 12 June 2014 - a prerequisite for beatification. A miracle attributed to her is currently under investigation. ==Life== Maria Teresa Scandola was born in 1849 in Verona. She met Father Daniel Comboni - future saint - in 1871 and discussed with her his assignment of evangelization in Africa. Scandola and her mother - in 1872 - remained in Verona at this time where Scandola was to become a professed religious on 19 March 1877 with the name of "Maria Giuseppa". She and four other sisters left Verona with Comboni on 12 December 1877 and set off for their mission in Africa. She worked to help children with their education and spiritual development. On 21 June 1903 she arrived in Lul for her new mission where she learnt the Shilluk language. She taught the people that "there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for another" and that true love is this: "to know the Father and Jesus Christ who wants everyone to be saved". Scandola died on 1 September 1903 at the age of 54. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Maria Teresa Scandola」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
